Short Description

The Thailand Study Programme is the longest-established Asian Study Programme taking place regularly since 1995, initiated by Prof. Dr. Erich Thöni of the University of Innsbruck. The programme aims to deepen your knowledge about Thailand in the context of the Southeast Asian region. To give you a holistic understanding of Thailand the programme does not just focus on economics but also gives you an insight into a number of other relevant issues, such as politics, culture, history, lifestyle etc. During the four weeks you will attend courses led by distinguished scholars at the Chulalongkorn University the so-called “King” University  (ranked 166th in the world 2008*) and at the Chiang Mai University in North Thailand.

To get hands-on experience of Thai culture, you will have the opportunity to work together with Thai students on projects related to actual issues, as this is probably the best way to understand Thai civilisation and the Thai mentality. As well as the lectures, you will also have the chance to meet and talk to prominent officials such as the Austrian Ambassador to Thailand or the Austrian trade delegate and business people.

Furthermore the Thailand Study Programme includes a number of exciting field trips. We will visit Ayutthaya, the former capital of the Kingdom of Siam, drive through the Klongs, the busy waterways in Bangkok, explore an original hill tribe village in the North, visit the unique elephant nature park and many more fascinating sites.

With all of this the Thailand Programme gives you an optimal chance to discover the “real” Thailand and to have an unforgettable Asian experience.
